Ep107 American Gods

We're loosely recapping this week's episode and cracking up over Mad Sweeny's antics and famous quotes, romancing a past of 1700's England, and understanding Laura's crass and empty soul through "a spark of the same spirit", told through a coming to America story narrated by Ibis himself.

This week on American Gods we got a really fascinating look into the Mad Sweeny universe. With a back story taking us from Ireland, to America, into London and finally Sweeny is settled in America all through the belief in leprechauns from a miss Essie Tregowan, or within the confines of the show -McGowan.

Essie, who's red hair flows bright as a blazing fire, is played by our very own Emily Browning who also happens to play Laura. At this time, one may have reason to wonder if this is any sort of reincarnation and producers do say that they are a sparkle of the same spirit, but what, if any, part of the future this plays is completely unknown.

The story of Essie is told in the our beloved original publication, is in many regards the same and in many more ways much different. In both she carries with her a belief in such things as fairies and leprechauns. One particular such leprechaun is the one and only Mad Sweeny who is attached to Essie for her faith.

Essie over the years continued to call upon the leprechaun in prayer, leaving him always the last little bite of food or a plate of milk as an offering up to her magical creature. In times of hard her prayers were hard and the strength of those prayers bolstered luck in the life of the leprechaun, who in return sent luck back to dear Essie. And in good times, if prayers went forgotten, luck went unbegotten for both.

When our little woman finds herself for a second time imprisoned for theft, this time deservingly, she is unknowingly celled adjacent to her leprechaun. Allowing for a conversation in which her thoughts give faith to a leprechaun as her king and as luck would have it, a means of avoidance of fate presents itself.

Her faith no longer escaped her mind beyond that final escape from the gallows. And in the new world she lucks into as comfortable a servitude as one could ever imagine, eventually marrying her master and living out the her remaining days as the owner of the plantation she was purchased to serve.

In her final moments of pumping blood filling her veins, her leprechaun pays her a final farewell with a face to face, demonstrating a level of comfort only faith can bring.

Ep303 Fear the Walking Dead

We're making general discussion over this week's episode of FTWD and complaining about the acting! Seriously.

We can't walk away from this show. It's weird with how bad it is, it's like walking away from a loyalty or maybe we just wonder if we might miss something... but the acting is weird, unnatural and often lame or boring.

The episode did prove that they can be really funny in the writing and not all the acting is atrocious. Alicia/Alycia is actually a joy and hello!! Now we have Dayton Callie. I'm also enjoying Daniel Sharman even though Troy is a weaselly mother fucker.

There's been some interesting twists like Madison going from her pathetic attempt to make it seem like she fears Troy, to her volunteering to join forces with him on a rescue mission. Last week Troy had Nick, Luciana, and Travis lined up for the subject of his demented science project; now we see Nick and Troy rolling around in a brotherly playful-ish let's beat each other up and laugh about it fight. I can't wait to see what Luciana feels about this!

And praise Jesus! Finally someone has some weed. After begrudgingly agreeing to a "bible study" with some other teens at the ranch, Alicia finds herself getting to be a regular person for a little while when they bunker down with a little booze, a bong, and a walker head asking questions from a birdcage.
