THE TAKE 12 RECOVERY RADIO SHOW
Topic: Sticks & Stones, the Profanity and the Profane.
'Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me' is a stock response to verbal bullying in school playgrounds throughout the English-speaking world. It sounds a little antiquated these days and has no doubt been superseded by more streetwise comebacks. A response to an insult, implying that "You might be able to hurt me by physical force but not by insults". But as men and women in recovery we know this to be anything but true. Word’s are powerful, they hurt, traumatize and can even lead to death. The profanity and the profane simply do us no good.
