Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) is associated with disorders of gut-brain interaction and can be the cause of unexplained GI problems, especially in young women. Although we are seeing more and more patients who are experiencing symptoms that lie on this spectrum, researchers are still clueless of the precise cause of this syndrome. There is a lot of science however, that supports that this has at least a component of autoimmunity. Functional medicine is definitely suited to respond to this health crisis by addressing root causes, nutrition, and avoidance of surgery if possible. Listen to this episode and learn the basics of hEDS and how this syndrome affects the gut.
