Do you have lingering symptoms after COVID-19? Symptoms like fatigue, muscle weakness, sleep disorders, brain fog/cognitive dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, hair loss, and/or loss of taste or smell? Then you have Post Acute COVID-19 Syndrome (PACS) or what is otherwise known as Long COVID. Research published just this year (2022) is showing what Functional Medicine practitioners have been saying since the pandemic started: It's the gut--duh! Conventional medicine still hasn't bought in to the huge impact that the gut microbiome has on all of health, but studies are very convincing on the role that the gut microbiome has on the lingering effects of COVID-19, so we're hoping this is another area of research that will help everyone see the profound impact that the microbiome has on your overall health. New technology called "Shotgun Metagenomic Sequencing" is a more precise way of evaluating your microbiome and if you have Long COVID then this type of testing might be what you need to identify your specific imbalances and then design a treatment protocol that could help you recover. Fascinating stuff!
As always, if you have unanswered questions to your gut problems and need help, reach out to us at drjerby.com or give us a call at (980) 339-5155.
