79. The Habit of Slowing Down - 3 Tips to Make this Happen
Manage episode 391159829 series 3372246
Happy Holidays, Habit Thrivers!🎄
‘Tis the season of “Go, Go, Go…”🏃♀️
The time where we are shopping, baking, wrapping, decorating, hosting, socializing, etc.
Hopefully, as December 25th approaches, you are getting an opportunity to actually slow down😮💨 and enjoy this time with friends and family.
But if you find yourself zooming from place to place and item to item on your to-do list and perhaps just don’t know how to slow it down, no worries at all…🫶
This week, on Episode #79 of the Habit Thrive Podcast, we are talking about The Habit of Slowing Down (and 3 tips to help make it happen😉).
It all comes down to three little letters: B.O.P.
That’s right; these 3 letters will have you “BOPping” through the holiday season - or any season!😎
B - BREATH
Whether it’s just a stolen moment in the car to take a few deep breaths in and out or following a breathing meditation🙏, a breath practice can happen anywhere and any time:
- In the parking lot before a doctor’s appointment
- In your morning shower
- In bed (to start your day, to end your day or both!)
- Standing in line at the grocery store
This practice helps us to not only slow down but also let go of any feelings of fatigue, tension or other negative emotions.🤗
O - ON TIME
Practice being on time⏰, or ahead of time when you can.
We often try to take advantage of those times we are running a little bit early by accomplishing a few extra tasks with our bonus time:
- I have 5 minutes before I need to leave, let me empty the dishwasher
- It didn’t take me as long as I expected to get dressed this morning, I can go ahead and fold the laundry
You start getting distracted (with good intentions) and before you know it, you’ve lost track of time and are running late instead.🫣
Don’t burden yourself with scurrying around to get as much done as possible. Stick to your schedule, and use those extra moments for a breath or 2 instead.
P - PRESENT
In those moments where we are breathing and not feeling rushed, it can feel like time slows down.
We take in the sights👀, smells👃 and sounds👂 all around us.
And, this time of year in particular, those sensations are all around.
- Christmas carols
- Friends laughing and talking
- Apple cider brewing
- Loved ones opening gifts
What a perfect time to slow down!🥰
