Jeremy Harte is an independent folklore researcher and author. He has written a number of books on the subject including Explore Fairy Traditions which won Katharine Briggs Award and the more recent Cloven Country: The Devil and the English Landscape
Jeremy's new book Fairy Encounters in Medieval England: Landscape, Folklore and the Supernatural is a really great read. It's entertaining and wittily written.
Supernatural encounters from primary source material are tied together throughout the chapters and also include stories related to documented miracles. The second half covers fairy-related place names in the English landscape.

Simone and her husband's primal neuroception immediately picked up 'something was not right' and when they saw his eyes, they knew he wasn't human....it was as if he was using that body form to 'see' into this world. And he indicated he had been watching them. Simone also shares her experience of living in a house with what she describes as an elemental of some kind. The house would shake at will. The presence finally made it's appearance in flashing red lights and heavy footsteps approaching Simone's room, when she was alone in the house one night. She also shares her beautiful communion with a river and the vision of a tall white being and lastly, a very nerve-wracking childhood visitation of a large being with long grey curly hair - was it a banshee? He has led the way in teaching fellow farmers and people around the world about how to be a good guardian of the land, living in harmony with nature and the fairy realm. His art background originated in creating comics which he now feels may link originally to an experience he had as an 11 year old child, when he came face to face with a small blue non-human being in his bedroom in East Grinstead, West Sussex. Having researched UFO lore and demonology throughout his life, Jason decided to contact me with his encounter after hearing paranormal researcher, Paul Sinclair on this show, describing his experience of seeing a small creature with ‘elephant-like skin’. His story 'Meeting Nicola', was published in the, "It Happened To Me..." section of The Fortean Times (Issue 350, 2017). This episode was also released as a video on YouTube . The sense of uncanniness about this meeting has always stayed with Frank. There are many liminal aspects to consider: the proximity to water, crossing a bridge, the time of his life between studies. As well as this, various folklore motifs abound: black dog, dark man, strange stillness in the environment (Oz Factor) and the way that the beings appeared and disappeared in a mysterious manner. Most of all, there was a sense that one cannot fully describe. But you will know, if you've ever had a brush with the Otherworld. ⭐️ In the bonus episode on Patreon I share related folklore about river-related merfolk, we hear some comparable encounters submitted to Simon Young’s Fairy Census and we end with a particularly unsettling story that was posted on Reddit. It is a strikingly similar experience of a young man who came into contact with a strange man along the river in York, England, featuring lost time and other very strange factors. Both men view their experiences as near misses with beings from the Otherworld and feel lucky that they lived to tell the tale. Frank is the author of Sicilian Shadows - a compelling memoir of his struggle for survival in the heartland of the Mafia as a young boy.
