This week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Jamie Lerner, therapist, and author. Listen in, as we talk about the pillars of self-love and the impact that it has on our relationships. If you are someone who has struggled to put your own needs first, struggled to be gentle with yourself, or trust yourself or others, this episode is not to be missed. Let’s dive in!
The Ever-Loving Essence of You

  • The most important relationship that we have, is the one that we have with ourselves.
  • The foundation of all of your relationships, is the connection or lack thereof, with yourself.

Doing the Work

  • Sit with yourself for a few minutes at the beginning of your day and reflect on what you hear in your mind.
  • Throw yourself on the ground and laugh uncontrollably at the harmful thoughts that tend to shape your mind on a daily basis.
  • Ask yourself, “are those things even true?”
  • Create a new story of the new version of yourself.
  • Redirect yourself inward, not outward.
  • You can shift the course of your life moment by moment, and make choices.

Changing the Tone

  • Ask yourself, “is it working for me?”
  • Change the tone, one word, phase, or paragraph in your belief system, in order to make a shift in your thoughts and in your life.
  • You don’t have to take a leap, just make a small shift and reframe your thoughts and focus.
  • Turn a negative thought into a positive one. Use it as an opportunity.
  • You’re not a victim to any situation.
  • Take responsibility for yourself.

Taking the First Step

  • Learn how to nurture and nourish yourself first.
  • Don’t wait for someone to do something for you.
  • Do things for yourself that you wish others would do for you, and do it with love.
  • Little things equate to big things.
  • Ask yourself, “what makes me feel good? What can I do for me at this moment?”
  • Choose something small that will make you feel connected to yourself.
  • Write down two things that make you feel good and put them in your pocket. When you feel stuck, pull them out and give yourself a choice.

Forming Relationships

  • How we feel about ourselves consciously or unconsciously is how we feel about others.
  • We are constantly projecting how we feel about ourselves and others.

Self Love

  • What are some things that you appreciate about yourself?
  • What do you adore about yourself? Not what someone else adores about you.
  • Finding things that you like about yourself is where it all starts.
  • There is not enough external validation for anyone to love themselves. It has to be from the inside of loving yourself first.
