All throughout human history we have always run our lives based on sets of rules or laws. That list of universal immutable truths that we can point to and say …if we just stick to these base principles…we can’t go wrong. If we’re talking about the law, here in Canada we have the Canadian charter of rights and freedoms, there’s the U.S constitution…religion has The ten commandments! All of these laws give us a base of knowledge to fall back on and use to build and shape our understanding of the given subject.

In the strength and conditioning world people, more often than not, tend to fly blind and just…start. Don’t get me wrong, getting started with anything and figuring it out as you go can be fine! But often people spend years either not getting the best gains in strength and muscle that they can , or even just doing it wrong! They just put a weight in their hands and start...lifting…well, actually they usually start curling it if I’m being honest, which is exactly the point, athletes start out with no direction, no coaching, no clue on the safety or efficacy of the exercises they’re doing…..Talk about learning to fly on the way down. But fear not… today I’m going to lay out the list we’ve all wished we had going back to those early days when we wandered around the weight room with no idea what to do or how to do it, all the while trying to give the complete opposite impression. Here are the 8 iron rules of strength training.
