“Trauma in a person over time can look like personality. Trauma in a family over time can look like family traits. But, Trauma in people can look like culture.” --Resmaa Menakem, author of 'My Grandmother’s Hands'.

Trauma is the lasting mental, emotional, and physical response that often results from living through a distressing event. In this episode, we continue our werk in To Heal A People's Ring 1 of our 4 Ring System of Healing: Healing the Self. We listen in on an interview with Resmaa, taking in his insights and personal stories as to how trauma shapes our reactions to daily experiences, and eventually, our culture. He shares different ways he slows down the reaction to re-member and transmute trauma responses into something new.

Afterwards, H-Soul and Mama Jah break it down and share their own take on Resmaa's insights, and talk about different pathways to mending our hearts and bodies, including:

  • Getting your life reps in - practicing the challenges
  • Visualizing what we want to overcome
  • Returning to Source

This episode talks about: intergenerational trauma, intergenerational healing, black mental health, black maternal health, resmaa menakem.
