EP84 - My mum's journey of weight loss - Christmas Special

Since starting the podcast there has been one very special person I have wanted to have as a guest on the show. It's the same person who inspired the Weight Loss Warrior podcast and someone extremely important to me. Today I am proud and excited to introduce Pat Radley, my mum.

The timing couldn't be any better. Last night I received a message to say that final 1 pound had gone and my mum was officially at target. After years of ups and downs, my mum has finally reached her goal and I couldn't be happier for her.

For my mum, her challenges with her weight started after I was born. As a teenager and young adult she had been very active working in a hair salon and maintaining a slim figure, however after finding herself at home with a newborn baby, things became difficult.

We talk about how having 3 children 4 years apart each time made weight loss a struggle, and how secret eating, lack of exercise and mental health played a part in my mums battle to keep her weight under control.

She tried many diets over the years, some of which were successful in the short term but unsustainable so eventually failed when a more normal approach to eating resumed. We talk about how important being educated about nutrition is and that when you feel low and unable to reach your goal, it just feels easier seeking comfort being sat with a biscuit tin in front of the tele than facing the reality of what is making you unhappy.

I had previously shared that it was my mum's admittence of feeling lonely between group weigh in sessions that inspired me to look for a way to help others get support on their journey and led to me creating the WLW Podcast. I felt a deep sense of pride being able to share the result of this with her and have the opportunity to celebrate her success and dedication to her own transformation.

This episode has a lot of meaning attached to it for me, and I hope you enjoy it too.

Thanks to my mum for allowing me to record and share this. Unfortunately she doesn't have Instagram yet so I can't tell you to follow her - but I'm sure she will be back on the show in the very near future to share how things are going.
