TW: Suicide, Rape and Violence.
On today's episode of Yours Mentally we talk about the dangers of conversion therapy. This episode is in conversation with Nishi Ravi who is a Counselling Psychologist.
We begin the episode by talking about what conversion therapy is and what is Nishi's opinion on conversion therapy.
We then talk about the kind of practices do they engage in in conversion therapy that results in an individual altering their preferences.
We also talk about how commonly is conversion treatment or conversion abuse practiced.
We discuss that despite of all its ill effects, why is conversion therapy not banned yet? Why do people practice it?
We then go on to talk about how has the pandemic impacted the rates of conversion abuse and queer expression.
Statistically, conversion therapy has resulted in the increase in suicide rates among people of the LGBTQIA community. Nishi tells us why and how does it affect them so negatively.
Lastly, Nishi talks about in what ways can queer people seek help if they are being struggling with conversion abuse.
