On today's episode of Yours Mentally we talk about a guide to seeking help. This episode is in conversation with Lenni George who is a Counselling Psychologist.
We begin the episode by asking Lenni what is the first step to seeking help?
We then talk about what are some signs and symptoms that one is in need of seeking professional help.
We then ask her if seeking professional help for one's mental health is frowned upon in their family or background or if they don’t have the resources to do so, what can one do in such a situation?
We also ask her how does one know that they truly need help and that they are not just over reacting?
What exactly do they do if you go to get tested for mental illnesses? What psychological tests do they conduct?
We also ask how does one learn to rise above the societal stigma surrounding therapy and focus on what is important for their well being?
We also discuss about how does one know which peers of theirs will be right for them to open up about their mental health? What are some qualities one should look for in them?
We then ask Lenni what are a few coping strategies one can use if they are not able to seek professional help for whatever reason?
Lastly, we ask her, after one has started therapy, how can they continue to help themselves at home on their own?
