Struggling in my relationships and feeling resentful, I had no idea that my unrealistic expectations were the culprit. Little did I know, understanding expectations took me on a journey of self-discovery, learning to accept and love myself, and developing healthier relationships. What I've gained from this experience is nothing short of life-changing - and I'm still learning.

“By managing our expectations, and being mindful of our own limitations and those of others, we can build stronger and healthier relationships with those around us.”

In this episode, I delve into the subject of expectations and their impact on ourselves and our relationships. I discuss how unmet expectations can lead to disappointment and frustration, and the importance of communication, understanding, and acceptance in managing these feelings. I share three main reasons why we have unmet expectations of others, and how recognizing our own and others' limitations can help build stronger, healthier relationships. Finally, I provide a helpful exercise, the Understanding Your Expectations worksheet, which can assist in refining our feelings and expectations towards others.

In this episode, you will be able to:

  • Enhance your communication skills in relationships to convey expectations clearly.
  • Spot unreasonable expectations and tackle them for healthier bonds.
  • Appreciate the importance of diverse values or priorities among individuals.
  • Find solace in adopting acceptance as a means to alleviate disappointment.
  • Foster stronger connections by consciously managing expectations.

And more!
