Have you heard the buzz phrase going around that “sitting is the new smoking?”

Well, what exactly does that mean?

I had some idea that sitting too much wasn’t good for you—like it impacted your posture and triggered back pain (I know this from personal experience).

But I had no idea that it was also associated with many other serious health problems.

In today’s podcast episode, physical therapist and sitting expert, Dr. Chad Walding, explains that when you sit for long periods of time you reduce the enzyme that clears fat from the blood stream, which impacts cholesterol levels, increases the risk for heart disease, reduces bone density, and disrupts hormone balance.

Not only that, according to Dr. Chad, sitting in a slouched position has a negative impact on how you see yourself and others.

Here’s some of the topics Dr. Chad and I discuss:

* Why back pain is so prevalent, simple solutions to alleviate back pain and why back pain can get WORSE after having back surgery and taking pain medications.

* Simple posture correction exercises to counteract the negative effects of sitting too much.

* The number of minutes you should get up and move after you’ve been sitting. (And how long you should move before you sit back down.)

* The problems with standing and treadmill desks.

* How your hips, knees and feet should be positioned for proper alignment when you’re sitting (and why you DON’T want to sit on your tail bone).

This interview will leave you with a practical plan of action to reduce back pain and reverse the negative impact of sitting too much (even if you have a desk job or you travel a lot.)

If you know someone who is looking for natural solutions to alleviate back pain from sitting too much, please share this information with her.

And if you have a minute, please leave me a quick review on iTunes—I love to hear from you!
