❓ Why has your weight loss stopped? What is the reason for your plateau?

🎙 In this episode of The Body Smart podcast, Jaymie Moran and co-host Gemma Ray discuss those frustrating last 10lbs that just seem so hard to lose.
💪 At the point of recording, Gemma has lost 55lbs over a long, sustained period and she's super close to her ultimate weight loss goal. Yet the last 10lbs have become a challenge to lose and she's not seen any weight loss for two weeks.
🤔 "Is starvation mode real?" she asks and Jaymie debunks this myth about starvation mode but offers a potential explanation to Gemma's weight loss stalling in the form of metabolic adaptation.
👉 Metabolic adaptation or metabolic slowdown is the term used to describe the body’s natural physiological response to reduced calorie intake. Without it, humans would have become extinct thousands of years ago. Unfortunately, this ancient protective response can cause a weight loss plateau.
💯 Jaymie explains the ways in which this can manifest on a physiological level and also discusses the psychological reasons that reaching your goal can cause complacency which can affect weight loss. We coined the term "confidence complacency" - when family members and friends pass on their compliments ar your physical appearance changes which psychologically can make you more complacent in your ongoing actions.
🍔 We also discussed what a diet break is and how this can help create a 'slingshot' effect on results for some people. 🏹
