Dr. Laura Anderson, PhD. is a psychotherapist, trauma resolution coach and consultant, writer and educator specializing in complex and developmental trauma, dynamics of power and control and religious trauma. In this episode of Cheaper than Therapy the Podcast, we sat down with Dr. Anderson to discuss all things spirituality and religious trauma, and about her book “When Religion Hurts You.”

🌟 What You’ll Gain from this Episode:

  • Religion vs Spirituality: Addressing the role of religion and/or religious trauma in your upbringing is a personal spiritual journey that doesn’t have to create anti-religious rhetoric in your life, but helps find a way to feed your soul in a safe and fulfilling way
  • Patriarchy within The Church: Recognizing that at the root of most religions is the same intention and message, and the patriarchy’s need for control, power, and certainty are what create religious trauma, and that finding safety within religion and spirituality is possible
  • Finding Internal Safety: A lot of the work done to heal from religious trauma includes learning how to find safety within yourself for the first time, rather than looking to an external source like your parents or The Church

🎙 This podcast is definitely Cheaper than Therapy
