A lot of people think that what you learn from trauma is to avoid it at all costs. But Dr. Lise Deguire learned some unexpected lessons about life, love, and courage. This episode shares how Dr. Deguire's experience as a burn survivor has taught her valuable lessons that we can learn from!
At the age of four, Dr. Lise Deguire suffered third-degree burns on 65% of her body as the result of both maternal and corporate negligence. Against the odds, she lived through the trauma, beginning decades of treatment as a burn survivor. Lise chats with Annette and Mark about her journey touching on early events, including the story of the fire, her years of painful surgeries in the hospital, social isolation, and bullying.
Dr. Deguire recounts her childhood with two narcissistic parents and their futile struggles to find happiness. She tells her family's tragic story, which includes artistic genius, stark neglect, and four suicides. Most importantly, she explains her long but ultimately triumphant path towards love, health, and life satisfaction.
