On my show today we are going to delve into the awful time in caregivers lives when they need to discuss talking to their loved ones about no longer driving. It hits so deeply on so many levels - self worth, independence, end of life, etc. There is no easy answer to how to have this conversation, but there are tips we can learn and use to make this easier for caregivers. My guest is Penny Patnaude, the founder of Caregiver Strategist LLC, located in New Jersey. The company is devoted to training front-line health professionals implement best care practices, protection, assistance, acknowledgment and communication techniques for individuals living with cognitive impairment. As a former caregiver with decades of experiences, Penny knows firsthand the devastation diseases like Alzheimer’s and Dementia cause. Penny provides families with information and strategies to develop skills in managing difficult behaviors, crisis planning and creating safer environments. Penny holds a Masters of Degree with a Concentration in Training and Education; Bachelors Degree in Psychology; she is Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer; Certified Dementia Practitioner; Certified Dementia Support Group Facilitator and national speaker.
