On a personal level, and professionally working with caregivers for the past 16 years, I believe that guilt is something the majority of caregivers carry around with us. Dr. Julie Davelman, a psychologist with Abrams Psychological Services explains the overlap of guilt and shame in caregivers lives and offers wonderful advice how to manage these feelings. If these emotions take overa caregiver's life, it can lead to depression as well as delay getting needed help and resources because of embarrassment. These feelings are probably never going to go away completely, but they also do not have to diminish or take over our lives. Dr. Davelman stresses that no one is a perfect cargiver, but there is also no such thing as a perfect caregiver. Read more helpful advice from Dr. Davelman's at her blog Can This Help You?
