Das Hochstaplersyndrom, auch bekannt als Impostor-Syndrom, bezieht sich auf das Gefühl, dass man trotz Erfolgen und Anerkennung nicht wirklich kompetent oder würdig ist. Betroffene fühlen sich oft wie Betrüger, die ihre Leistungen nicht verdienen und glauben, dass ihr Erfolg auf Glück oder Täuschung beruht. Dies kann zu Selbstzweifeln, Angst vor Entdeckung und einem ständigen Druck führen, sich beweisen zu müssen. Obwohl viele Menschen davon betroffen sein können, unabhängig von ihrem tatsächlichen Erfolg, sind es oft Perfektionisten oder Menschen, die unter starkem externen Druck stehen.
