27. Hobbies! They're Not Just for Husbands Anymore!
Manage episode 380831005 series 3467454
Believe it or not, the topic of hobbies - especially stereotypical "men's" hobbies - makes an outsized appearance in both individual and couples' counseling (I'm looking at you, golf!).
How is it possible that leisure activities can cause such turmoil in so many partnerships? Well, the conversation around hobbies often reflects bigger issues in our marriages, and can lead to bigger issues in our marriages, such as:
- who "owns the time" in the partnership
- mom guilt vs. dad guilt (aka, not a thing)
- default parenting
- internalized productivity culture
If you've ever:
- felt like you can't possibly do something, just for the fun of it, because there's so much to do and other people need so much from you
- felt like even if you DID get time, you don't have "a thing" and wouldn't know where to start
- felt like your partner thinks that their time is more valuable than yours
- burned with resentment when your husband joins another sports league
- felt like you've lost your sense of self
- wondered if you might be a vampire, only allowed to have fun before the sun comes up or after the sun goes down (just me???)
This episode is for you!
