With the increased demand for professional mental health services during the pandemic, school counselors, like Maggie, noticed their roles shifting. They spent much of their time providing crisis intervention for students and families.

Simultaneously, Maggie began to notice her own emotional well-being being challenged by having to face her own mental health diagnosis. Taking a leave of absence from her job, she and her family moved from the US to the Netherlands, where she has begun to heal. The episode explores her bravery in turning inward and showing up for herself. Maggie shares her expat-life journey on Tik Tok under the account @mj_abroad.
