Andrea McLean: Shaking The “Good Girl” Identity And Taking Risks
Manage episode 296967824 series 2943223
Marisa’s guest this week is Andrea McLean; award-winning TV broadcaster, Sunday Times Number 1 best-selling author, journalist, and CEO. She is also co-founder of the female empowerment site This Girl Is On Fire.
Andrea opens up about her personal journey with mental health and why it’s a dangerous pattern to mask how we really feel if we’ve been conditioned to accommodate and appease those around us. She discusses with Marisa what steered her decision to quit her high-profile TV presenting job, and why the most frightening decisions often open up the most interesting opportunities.
In this episode Marisa and Andrea discuss:
- The small things we can do that help us build mental resilience, ahead of when we most need it
- The year it all became too much and led to Andrea’s breakdown
- Dispelling the myth of waiting for ‘perfect timing’
- The power of thinking differently, and why a perspective shift really can save us
