She earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Psychology from Princeton University and postdoctoral fellowship in molecular biology at The Rockefeller University. Dr. Avena has authored over 90 scholarly journal articles and several books and book chapters on topics related to nutrition, addiction, eating disorders and obesity. She is also an expert in diet during pregnancy and baby, toddler and childhood nutrition. Dr. Avena regularly appears on podcasts, radio and tv, including appearances on The Doctor Oz Show and The Doctors.
