This week, I’m talking to Jessi Beyer, a speaker, mental health advocate, and bestselling author of How To Heal: A Practical Guide To Nine Natural Therapies You Can Use To Release Your Trauma.

Jessi is on a mission to help those around her feel valid, heard, and appreciated in their mental health struggles and design lives they love waking up to.

Jessi has been featured in dozens of media outlets, including Best Company, Thrive Global, and Elite Daily, and has spoken to thousands of people across the US at colleges and schools..

Outside of her professional life, she is a canine search and rescue handler and a proud pet mom.

This conversation was honest and uplifting - and we covered everything from:

  • Jessi’s story from recovering from trauma, and poor mental health - including running out of the building where she first had talk therapy, and never going back - to building a multi-faceted career she loves
  • The difference between Trauma with a capital T and trauma with a little t, and how to identify if you are suffering
  • The isolation of mental health, and how talking about it can help break the stigma and help us all feel less alone
  • How talking about trauma can help us realise that our feelings are valid, no matter how big or small, and how there is no “hierarchy” of suffering
  • The nine natural therapies you can use to heal trauma, including mindfulness, ecotherapy and canine therapy
  • How getting a “successful life” starts with ourselves and loving ourselves where we are right now
  • How to meditate and get mindful even if you struggle to feel safe in your own body and can’t sit still even for five seconds
  • How spending time in nature can help heal your mental illness - even if you can’t get outside or go on a hike
  • And how to support someone else suffering from trauma or poor mental health

Jessi’s gorgeous dog also makes an appearance - and we also speak about how and why having dogs around might just be one of the best ways to heal!

Trigger warning: This episode contains brief mentions of suicide, trauma, car accidents, and emergency search and rescue services.
