Part 3: The Truth About Diastasis Recti

In this episode of Oh My Heath ... There's HOPE! Jana talks with Elena Biedert.

Elena Biedert is a certified fitness trainer and nutritionist, postpartum training specialist, bikini athlete, book author, and internationally published writer: juggling all while working at a renowned tech company and being a mom. The traumatic birth of her son in 2017 was the motivation to start her own business, "Mama Fitness Coaching". With her individualized coaching, she helps other new moms build a body even leaner and stronger than before pregnancy so that they can look good and feel strong enough to keep up with their kids, without sacrificing family time.

“That buzzword “diastasis recti”, which means separation of abdominal muscles, scares and confuses almost every mom I’ve ever worked with or talked to. The lack of actual facts about it as well as the abundance of contradictive information out there, doesn’t make it any easier for expecting or new moms. Should you crunch or not crunch, plank or not plank? What are you allowed to do and what not? It’s easy to get lost!”

This 30-minute episode is on:

  1. What is diastasis recti?

  2. Can it be prevented if you exercise before or during pregnancy?

  3. Do you need to wear a corset to help close the gap?

  4. If someone has a “mommy pooch” or “mummy tummy”, does it mean they still have diastasis?

  5. Are there specific exercises to help heal the diastasis recti?
