In the April 1989 issue of Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction magazine, there was a story written by Sage Walker titled Indian Giving. The story describes a woman's journey to a remote cabin in the mountains of New Mexico to quit smoking. She ends up experiencing Polynesian Paralysis and having an encounter with a spiritual being.
