Learning Objectives: After completing this educational activity, you should be better able to:

• Recognize the neuroethics involved in involuntary treatment of serious mental illness
• Identify methods to prevent patients with serious mental illness from entering the criminal justice system, including the utility of diversion programs
• Institute community-based changes that have the potential to reduce the criminalization of serious mental illness, both on the individual and the policy level
