Bulimia nervosa is a type of eating disorder that affects millions of people worldwide, yet is often shrouded in secrecy and shame. We'll explore the symptoms of bulimia nervosa, including recurring binge eating, feelings of lack of control, and compensatory behaviors such as vomiting, laxatives, or fasting.
To be diagnosed with bulimia nervosa, these behaviors must occur at least once a week for more than three months, and there must be a preoccupation with body shape and weight. Unlike other eating disorders, bulimia nervosa is characterized by a clear cycle of binge and compensation.
We'll also discuss the diagnosis of bulimia nervosa, which involves using the DSM, a book used to diagnose mental health conditions. And, we'll talk about the different treatment options available, which range from behavior modification to therapy to medication. Seeking professional help is critical for individuals struggling with bulimia nervosa, no matter the severity of their symptoms.
By the end of this video, you'll have a better understanding of bulimia nervosa, and what steps you or someone you love can take to get the help and support they need. So, join us on this journey to demystify bulimia nervosa and shed light on this important topic.
