Anxiety 101
Manage episode 440143567 series 3349201
Everyone experiences anxiety. It's NORMAL. Anxiety can be helpful as it serves to alert us to potential threats, protect us from danger and help us reach important goals. For example, it’s normal to feel anxious when encountering a wild animal on a hike or before an important job interview.
The experience of anxiety is not dangerous. Yes, anxiety feels uncomfortable - but it cannot hurt you. It's a temporary feeling that decreases as it goes.
In this session, we go over some of the common symptoms and how anxiety works. Anxiety can be adaptive, yet it can also become a problem if you allow it. The sensations we experience when anxious are evolutionarily designed as part of our body’s natural response mechanism that help us get into gear when faced with danger and to “calm down” when the threat has passed.
If you are someone who constantly feel anxious or worried, the common behavior that creates problems is avoidance.
Anxiety is part of life. We can't eliminate it from our lives. We need it. The goal is to accept anxiety, work with it, and continue to live your life anyway! So let's learn more about it!
