00:00:35- Harriet: Welcome to today’s show! I am super excited to introduce to you Dr. Lo.! Dr. Lo is freaking amazing and fantastic. She’s the owner of the Shine medicine which is really all about fixing your nutrition. Welcome to the show Dr. Lo!

00:01:11- Dr. Lauren: Thank you so much for having me!

00:01:14- Harriet: Amazing! I know I’ve just introduced you but I would love for you to let us know what’s really exciting you in your business right now. What’s getting you motivated to get your message out there?

00:01:25- Dr. Lauren: So many things excite me and I’m just a walking talking geek. I could get so juiced up about all kinds of things and kind of change day to day for me. I would say right now, one of the things that I really love in my practice is just going a little deeper in different areas with my patients.

00:02:25- Dr. Lauren: I am also really excited about the whole world of Epigenetics and getting into genetic diversity. How different we all are and how much we have power over what happens with our bodies and with our health. It’s not like you have this septs of genes and that you are fit. We know and the research now that we can turn on and off our genes depending on specific lifestyles.

00:03:50- Harriet: Wow! That’s pretty awesome!

00:04:15- Harriet: I’d love for you to dive deep into a little bit about your story, where you come from and what’s really set you on the path? You’ve done a lot of learning. I feel like you’ve kind of been learning since you left high school. Let us know what’s been impacting you negative and positive; to lead you on this path of sitting with you for an hour, and helping them get to the bottom of that problems journey.

00:04:36- Dr. Lauren: Well, I think one of the reasons why patients can relate to me is because they get a sense of “I’ve done this, done that”. I’ve done it so much myself personally and I’ve never looked back into “if there’s any mistake or regret”. I don’t regret anything because all of it has play the part in me becoming who I am, to have the empathy and to really be able connect to patients.

00:08:28- Harriet: I love the fact that you did get on what you wanted so you searched for more of a naturopathic doctor. What was really going on for you on that point that you said “I’ve got to try something else”. What was the real Lo? What were you doing? Where were you? Do you remember that experience?

00:08:43- Dr. Lauren: I remember I just finished high school, a friend of mine who went to high school with me; she had her own health problems. She had debilitated Crohn’s disease; to shed, an inflammatory bowel disease. Her body is literally attacking her own digestive tissue. She could have died. She could not absorbed or hold on to nutrients and somehow she found; this is in Colorado, this is where I was at the time. I was probably around nineteen, she signed naturopathic doctor in the Denver area who still made up unto this day and she’s amazing. She help turned her body around. After maybe six months or a year, she was healthier than before she got the disease. I went to that doctor for myself and even though I went for my skin, we didn’t focus on my skin. We focus on the gut. We focus on the inside out. It turned out, my skin eventually cleared up and it became very clear. That’s where I was at the time. I just felt like I had no answers. I felt like there was no one I could see. I was tired of going to conventional doctors for seven minutes at the most.

00:10:10- Dr. Lauren: I remember feeling hopeless. I remember feeling also very sceptical when I first went to the appointment with the doctor. The first visit with her, she spent a lot of time like one and a half or two hours. She was able to connect those different dots. At that time I was not planning to be a doctor. I told her I wanted to be a nutritionist and she goes “Yeah right. You’re going to be a doctor”. She kept telling me “You’re going to be naturopathic doctor”. She got a recommendation for me. I went to medical school.

00:11:03- Harriet: I’d love for you to share Lauren, there’s this type of person. We see her all the time and she’s listening to what her regular doctor says. She hears about this “naturopath” “natural healing thing” and she thinks it might be “wuwu spiritual like crazy something” and she’s not quite sure. What kind of advise, what would you say to a person to encourage and comfort that person to give it a go?

00:11:36- Dr. Lauren: I think that it’s very confusing to go into the world of natural medicine because you can see someone legit. You could see someone who doesn’t really know their stuff. It’s important to know the difference. One thing I will say is if you are willing to let infuse things into a naturopathic doctor, you really want to know they are a naturopathic doctor or they’re not just a mail order or internet naturopath. I’m not saying that those individuals can’t help people but if you’re really wanting to see someone who is able to mix kind of conventional medicine with natural medicine; that is what a naturopathic doctor is which mean them both.

00:12:13- Dr. Lauren: The best thing I’d say. Go to naturopathic.org. If you can find someone in your area if you want to see someone local, in that way you know if they’re legit, they’re trained or they’re going to an accredited medical school.

00:14:13- Harriet: Is there a specific book that you may recommend for someone who is getting into naturopathic medicine specifically, even if it’s just a short book or a long book?

00:14:20- I remember reading a book that blew my mind. This is back when I first decided to go naturopathic school. It’s called “Optimal Lonas” by Dr. Personnel. It’s like a little love story about natural medicine and it explained a lot more just fundamentally about what naturopathic medicine is, how to really see your body as abducel that can heal.

00:14:51 Dr. Lauren: There’s also natural medicine textbooks, those are really meaty and it’s actually quite expensive but if you want to get some really good research know a lot of information about natural medicine and different treatments and conditions and stuff like that, that’s a great textbook to get.

00:15:20 – Harriet: I would love for you to share to sort of help the listeners really understand what you’re up to. So you’re in California right now, what are some of the popular symptoms that you’ve been noticing that are common between us women?

00:15:35- Dr. Lauren: I am seeing a couple of things. What I’m seeing; a lot of fatigue, that’s probably the number one reason I’m seeing and there’s few reasons for that. We can get into that. The second, what I’m noticing is a lot of fertility issues and it’s happening earlier and earlier. Those are probably the biggest things I’m seeing right now for women.

00:16:05- Harriet: What it is for a lot of us women that first thing that come from?

00:16:09 - Dr. Lauren: For the fatigue; couple things. One is simply stress. That’s a big one because it’s just disrupting the body’s balance so much that it affects the mitochondria. It affects the adrenal system. It affects the brain connecting with the body. So stress is a big piece. Also, I’ve seen viral virus infection so basically mono. It’s something really common.
