Episode 248 | When we have our first baby, generally, moms world is completely upended while dad has the opportunity to basically be involved as little or as much as he wants. Mom has her short maternity leave while dad heads back to work. He sleeps the same, eats the same, works the same, thinks the same but not has a little bit more added to his plate when he gets home from work. Mom, on the other hand, is figuring out nursing or bottle feeding, on top of when the baby outgrows clothes, researches baby led weaning vs. jarred baby food, studies milestones, begins making the doctors appointments, studies vaccines and schedules, researches daycare, is the primary contact for daycare, labels the bottles and clothing, makes sure all clothes are washed each week, continues to clean the whole house and the list goes on and on. The list, worries, pressure and stress compound and expand until several years into parenting, mom begins to burn out, suffer from anxiety and depression and is told to "get better" and "do the work, but you're not doing it fast enough." Of course this is in general and can't apply to every relationship, but I know many can relate to this story.
In today's episode, my husband and I broach the conversation of how it go to be this way and how we've been able to begin to make shifts in the pressures and demands that are placed on us. What is "mine" and what is "ours" to tend to.
