Of all victims under age 18, 2 out of 3 are within the ages of 12 and 17. One in 9 girls and 1 in 53 boys under the age of 18 experience sexual abuse or assault at the hands of adults. 93% of the perpetrators is someone the survivors knows.

Dr. Lydiana Garcia is a Boricua licensed psychologist in Los Angeles, CA and shares with us what sexual abuse is, statistics on child sexual abuse, common signs teens may have if they have been abused, recommended way of handling not only a suspicion of abuse, but also the disclosure of sexual abuse. We also talk about common cultural things such as secrets and the effects that sexual abuse on a young family member has on the entire family system.
