We’re shining the light back on saturated fat in this special JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show Episode 1656. Want to know the latest on this important part of our diet? Stay tuned.

“If saturated fat is somehow the enemy, then wouldn’t we see a whole bunch of heart disease in these countries where saturated fat intake is higher?”

-Jimmy Moore

Think about the low-fat diet and how so many people have just always believed it was the “healthy“ way to eat. It’s incredible how that belief is so strong in most people that they don’t even know why they believe it. When you ask them to explain why they think low-fat diets are good for you, they usually give you a funny look back as if you’re a space alien with two heads—because cutting fat being healthy is so OBVIOUS!⁣ ⁣ But it’s an important question to ask people why they believe cutting fat is the answer to health. Because when you look at things like dietary guidelines, low-fat diets have been nutritional public policy for the past four decades and counting. And the way the discussion over the 2020 U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans is going, we’re headed for more of the same with saturated fat recommendations being pushed down to less than 10% of total caloric intake. ⁣ ⁣ Inexplicably, the science supporting this kind of recommendation is as old as the dietary guidelines themselves. Isn’t that crazy? Ever since the government has been promoting low-fat diets to the public, not one credible study looking at lowering saturated fat intake and its positive impact on your health has been conducted. People were wearing bell bottomed jeans and owned a pet rock the last time this was studied! ⁣ ⁣ Meanwhile, there has been plenty of research looking at the positive role consuming saturated fat in your diet has played on a variety of health outcomes, including lower rates of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. And yet all of this research is completely ignored in favor of sticking with the conventional wisdom of what we’ve always believed. If we’re going to pretend to be about science, then we need to bring science back to this discussion again!⁣

Listen in today as we take a look at a new paper published in The Journal of the American College of Cardiology giving the history and the lack of evidence supporting saturated fat limits in food recommendations. It’s good news for people who want sanity brought back to public health again!
