How long have we known that a ketogenic diet is helpful for so many ailments? We take on this topic in this special episode of JIMMY RANTS on The LLVLC Show Episode 1660.
“If you have someone with a disease and a doctor recommends a low-carb diet the patient would be more likely to give it a try.
– Jimmy Moore
Most of the time when someone is diagnosed by their doctor with Type 2 diabetes, people react much in the same way as if they were told they had cancer or some other health condition they deem as bad. Don’t give me wrong—Type 2 diabetes is indeed a major health concern because it is tied to other chronic diseases like heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, and more. But Type 2 diabetes in and of itself is not a slow march to decline and early death that people think it is. Unfortunately, because people see it as this dastardly condition that keeps getting progressively worse each year, they listen meticulously to everything their doctor has to say. That includes going on drugs like Metformin and other diabetes medications, eating a low-fat diet consuming lots of fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains, and all the other standard advice for people who have diabetes. When this advice inevitably fails, some people will then be put on injectable insulin—for the rest of their lives! Does any patient ever ask their doctor what that insulin is for? If they do, then the doctor would say “it’s to control your blood sugar” and the patient will think that’s a good thing. So then they go on this insulin protocol and keep on eating the things that are the culprit in their blood sugar remaining out of control. Madness! The lack of patient education on this topic is why people have become frustrated with mainstream advice on treating diabetes. Thankfully, there is new research that shows embracing a low-carb ketogenic diet is the best way to come off of insulin and diabetes medications and put that disease into remission.
