The flu is coming, but do you know how to protect yourself? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Each year, the flu accounts for more than 31 million outpatient visits, some of those resulting in hospitalization. Keep in mind that the flu can also result in death. That’s why the CDC has put out a call to “Take 3” when it comes to protecting yourself. Step 1 – Get your flu vaccine. While it doesn’t protect against all strains, it does protect against the most common. Step 2 – Take preventative actions like washing your hands, disinfecting door handles, and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. The third and final step is to see your healthcare provider if you think you may have the flu. There are very good antiviral medications that can help reduce the severity of the flu and help you get back to what I like to call the land of the living. This Stay Young Medical Minute is brought to you by Executive Medicine of Texas a global leader in anti-aging and preventative health. Visit EMTexas.com that’s EMTexas.com
