#752: MM- Don’t Hold Your Breath
Manage episode 219556070 series 132483
When’s the last time you took a deep breath? This is Judy Gaman and this is your Stay Young Medical Minute. Have you ever noticed that when you get really busy or you’re stress you tend to hold your breath? Well, it’s common to hurry through the day and forget to stop and take some deep breaths. The body needs proper amounts of oxygen to function. Your brain needs it to think properly, your digestive system needs it to keep things moving, and even your immune system needs it to ward off colds and the flu. Maybe this explains why people who tend to meditate or take yoga have a healthier body overall. I want you each day to stop every hour on the hour (except when you’re asleep of course) and take in three really deep breaths – slow and easy. I bet this simple change will bring you great benefits.
