Today, I am blessed to have Dr. William Li here with me. He is a world-renowned physician, scientist, speaker, and author of EAT TO BEAT DISEASE – The New Science of How Your Body Can Heal Itself.

In this episode, Dr. Li explains the significant connection between visceral fat and cancer, emphasizing that advanced cancer treatments are closely tied to our diet and metabolism. He likens cancer cells to normal cells gone rogue, feeding off the body and thriving on inflammation, often fueled by excess body fat. Dr. Li highlights that even supposedly healthy foods, like diet soda and low-fat yogurt, can be detrimental. Artificial sweeteners and emulsifiers in these products disrupt the gut microbiome, increasing inflammation and visceral fat. He advocates for whole foods, such as Greek yogurt with fresh fruits and nuts, and beverages, like iced tea or coffee with beneficial polyphenols, as healthier alternatives that support metabolic health and potentially mitigate cancer growth.

Tune in as Dr. Li emphasizes the importance of sleep for health, highlighting that it's rarely taught or discussed. He explains that sleep isn't merely a state of inactivity; instead, it's a time when the body undergoes vital processes like immune system strengthening, toxin clearance from the brain, and metabolic regulation. Dr. Li elaborates on how the brain has a glymphatic system that removes accumulated toxins during quality sleep. He also connects sleep with metabolic health, explaining how our circadian rhythm dictates when our body should store and burn energy. Additionally, he discusses the negative impact of night shifts on metabolism and health, stressing the importance of good sleep hygiene and self-compassion for those who work at night.
